I covered this earlier, this is the alternative media used to transmit binary communication transmissions. Communication signals are sent as binary digits (1's and 0's). Now instead of using cabling or to carry signals we now have the option of sending signals via satellite. These satellites orbit the planet and can receive and redirect signals all over the planet. An example of such a satellite is the Syncom 4 communications satellite. This satellite receives, amplifies and retransmits data back to earth. In doing so it provides television, faxing, telephone, radio and digital data links world-wide. Syncom4 maintains a geo-synchronous orbit, meaning it stays in the same place above Earth as the Earth revolves. Having this fixed position means communication links aren't broken or interrupted.
